NS-T DK™ Sofware Development Kit

NS-T DK™ is a high performance NFV platform based on Intel® Data Plane Development Kit (DPDK) and Docker containers with Open vSwitch. It provides a flexible framework for deploying network functions and interconnecting them to build service chains.

DPDK powers our NS-T DK™ platform to enhance packet processing performance and throughput up to 10x, allowing more time for data plane applications. This boost enables the CPU to achieve throughputs near line rate. This performance doubles with a dual-processor configuration. The latest Intel Xeon Processor (E5-2658 v4) achieves a 233 Gbps throughput (347 Mpps) of layer-3 forwarding at 64-byte packet sizes when running DPDK.

NS-T DK™ libraries make it possible to transition from running multiple systems for processing separate workloads (e.g. application, control, packet, and signal processing) to a single system which performs a much simplified and scalable operation. This software defined framework offloads workloads from special purpose hardware including network processors (NPUs), co-processors, application specific integrated circuits (ASICs), and field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) which have been used for achieving different functions on the traditional network.

This is an ideal solution for telecom wireless infrastructure applications and other network elements which include IP routers, MPLS, Ethernet, InfiniBand and Fibre channel switches, and layer- 2 electrical or optical packet-switches. NS-T DK™ is a solution for reducing hardware costs, simplifying the application development environment, and reducing market time by processing packets while executing various workloads.

The transition to IoT is the direct product of an optimized SDNFV integration. SDNFV requires flexible network infrastructure solutions to provide scalability across multiple deployment models and output optimal performance. Intel® and Xilinx® FPGAs and other high performance architectures can use a single core to process application layer, control plane, and data plane workloads using NS-T DK™ to optimize throughput for Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) and Internet Protocol Security (IPsec) encryptions, data compression, Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) workloads, while enabling scalability across multiple deployments (virtual and physical).
